As some of you may or may not of heard, the PS3 Network is down, by SONY"s doing. They did this because they are currently being attacked by a group known as Anonymous. A world-wide band of hackers (Not evil "we want your money" hackers [I assume some are though] but people who want to use their devices and programs to the fullest potential)
George Hotz AKA GeoHotz was the first person to "jail-break" an iPhone and was later found innocent for said "crime" and the act of jail-breaking phones became LEGAL. Now he has done a similar thing to the PS3. Originally the PS3 was advertised as being able to put 3rd party content on, Windows, Linux etc., but because some people use stolen games, on said OS's SONY, in its latest patch, removed peoples ability to do that, if people refused to patch up, then they lost their access to PSN and other related software. The "Hack" GeoHotz made, allowed for you to install linux and retain the ability to play on PSN.
SONY was not happy, that this 20 something kid was able to outsmart them on their turf. They took "legal" action.
SONY has started the process of suing him, and have acquired a (questionable to say the least) subpoena to access ALL of the IP addresses who EVER visited his website, youtube page, and twitter. Everyday people like you and I who just got curious, or randomly navigated to his youtube video, your PRIVATE information (Name, physical address, even your PAYMENT TO ISP information) WILL be in the hands of SONY. THIS IS WRONG!
Jail-breaking is already by USA law, been declared legal for cell phones, but because of the wording, up in the air, still about Console game stations.
Anonymous, is on the side of the people and the consumers. Please, PLEASE remember, it is NOT their fault that PSN is down, that is the doing of SONY. Anonymous has a simple set of demands, and they SHOULD win. I for one support them.
Watch their videos to learn more of their side. (who knows maybe Xbox and Microsoft are next )

Latest Update for PSN/Qriocity Services
+ Posted by Patrick Seybold // Sr. Director, Corporate Communications & Social Media
We sincerely regret that PlayStation Network and Qriocity services have been suspended, and we are working around the clock to bring them both back online. Our efforts to resolve this matter involve re-building our system to further strengthen our network infrastructure. Though this task is time-consuming, we decided it was worth the time necessary to provide the system with additional security.
We thank you for your patience to date and ask for a little more while we move towards completion of this project. We will continue to give you updates as they become available.

Then I wonder who is lying(COUGH SONY COUGH)? Anonymous declared they would leave the Player servers alone, while Sony admitted to taking the servers down themselves (probably to piss gamers off and make them think Anonymous was responsible....). Sad that I feel I can trust hackers more than an fortune 500 company... But this is the world we live in today.
